Since its first publication in New York in 1943, The Little Prince has become a publishing phenomenon – over 300 million copies sold – that crosses borders and eras, carrying Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's universal message of friendship and love. Every year, 5 million copies of this legendary book are sold worldwide. Truly a global publishing phenomenon, it is the most translated fiction book in the world, with over 600 official translations. The Little Prince appeals for the values it embodies and the message of hope it conveys. It's a book that can be passed on, given as a gift, and shared. Today, the iconic golden-haired character continues his journey across generations and continents, and the story is successfully adapted in every form: film, animated series, exhibitions and musical shows, theme parks, and events all over the world.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900–1944) was a man intimate with the mysteries of wind, sand, and stars. He was one of the grand adventurers of his time, but he is most famous today for his self-illustrated philosophical story, The Little Prince, which tells of the meeting between a stranded pilot and a prince who lives on an asteroid.
We are delighted to work with the Saint-Exupéry estate on this special design. We began our partnership in 2014 with our first release (Saint-Exupéry, Wind, Sand, and Stars) and are thrilled to expand our Saint-Exupéry Collection to include The Little Prince. The tale’s collective ideas on the human condition continue to captivate readers of every age.
Much like our passion to inspire creativity and spark imagination, we hope by releasing this Embellished Manuscript design we can help to ignite a celebration of both innocence and inspiration.
This collaboration between Paperblanks and the Saint-Exupéry estate was eagerly embraced by both teams as an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of the classic tale. Our shared love for literature and storytelling revealed a natural partnership with a desire to celebrate the joy of iconic stories.
Developing this release was a delight for our talented Graphics team, who revelled in harnessing the whimsical and unique charm of The Little Prince and translating this to a Paperblanks cover design.
“For this timeless classic we were inspired by the sweetness and playful mood of the design, which we enhanced with our special textures and leather-look frames to give that extra richness.” – Alicia Arellano, Graphic Artist
